SCULPTURE September 14th (Day 3)

WARMUP

You will have the first 10 minutes of class to work on your initial concentration questions.

1. Ask Yourself: Can I think of a subject matter, a unified idea to explore visually?

2. Ask Yourself: Will the subject matter have visual appeal with the potential for growth and discovery?

You are completing one artful page for each question. The two pages are due for grading THIS CLASS SESSION. You will have time at the beginning of class to resolve them; however, they are expected to be finished for discussion an grading at that time.

You will also preview the next two question/pages you will develop. For your reference they are as follows:

1. Ask Yourself: Can the subject matter be explored in 3 Dimensions?

2. Ask Yourself: Will your artwork be original authentic, detailed, and personal?

LESSON FOR THE DAY:

You will begin building your own architectural concept model today. To help gain understanding of just what a concept model is, or can be, please check out this tumblr called conceptmodel

You will choose a landscapoe and develop a series of forms to arrange into the model itself. Before we get ahead of ourselves on concept we need to develop the forms. This will require you to Envision, Engage, Explore, and Persist. And guess what, you may not get it right the whole time.

But be reassured this is OK. A little bit of failure helps move us from our current position and encourages learning. You will be asked to measure and fold in a similar manner to what we have done in class for the past few days. All criteria will be discussed in class.

AFTER PARTY:

We will at the end of class use the Seesaw app to upload images of the work completed during class today. This will build our digital portfolio, serving as a record of our efforts in the studio this year.

PREVIEW OF COMING ATTRACTIONS:

Please come to class prepared with a pencil and your intellect, both sharp.

Beyond the film we are going to treat our lesson like a game. You will recall that we are going to be working with paper media to build forms. You will be asked to Envision, Experiment, Engage, Persist, Observe, and Reflect as part of a group building process.

You will finish with an observational sketchbook drawing of the work we develop.

SCULPTURE September 8th (Day 1)

WARMUP

Our initial activity today will involve attaching a wallpaper cover to the sketchbook registers that we assembled during our previous session. This will be a directed activity and provide you with a finished (for now) sketchbook to work with this semester.

As we finish the covers and set them aside to dry we will discuss two open ended questions that will begin to guide you to your concentration. These questions will require you to complete one page in your sketchbook each. Again, that is one page per question. The two pages will be due at a later date.

The questions for discussion are as follows:

1. Ask Yourself: Can I think of a subject matter, a unified idea to explore visually?

2. Ask Yourself: Will the subject matter have visual appeal with the potential for growth and discovery?

LESSON FOR THE DAY:

Your first sculpture will require you to use heavyweight paper to develop forms of a variety of sizes. In order to familiarize yourself with the material you will solve a complicated folding problem and develop an additional piece for your sketchbook.

AFTER PARTY

You will use the Seesaw app to document your work for your digital portfolio.
