WARMUP
Our initial activity today will involve attaching a wallpaper cover to the sketchbook registers that we assembled during our previous session. This will be a directed activity and provide you with a finished (for now) sketchbook to work with this semester. As we finish the covers and set them aside to dry we will discuss two open ended questions that will begin to guide you to your concentration. These questions will require you to complete one page in your sketchbook each. Again, that is one page per question. The two pages will be due at a later date.
The questions for discussion are as follows:
1. Ask Yourself: Can I think of a subject matter, a unified idea to explore visually?
2. Ask Yourself: Will the subject matter have visual appeal with the potential for growth and discovery?
LESSON FOR THE DAY:
Your first sculpture will require you to use heavyweight paper to develop forms of a variety of sizes. In order to familiarize yourself with the material you will solve a complicated folding problem and develop an additional piece for your sketchbook.
